Navodaya Vidyalaya Samithi has issued Notification for Navodaya Schools Admission Test 2014-15, extended to children currently studying in class five in their respective district, to be conducted on 8th February, 2014 in all the districts of Andhra pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Union Territory of Yanam, Puducherry, Karaikkal, Mahe, Minicoy, North and Middle Andaman and Car Nicobar:

Eligibility:

• Students currently studying in class 5th from any school recognized by state or central government are eligible.

Details of testing pattern:

• The Admission Test will be of objective type test with two hours duration carrying 100 marks. The test will carry 50 per cent weightage for Mental Ability, 25 per cent for Arithmetic and 25 per cent for Language streams. The medium of the test will be the medium through which the candidate is studying in class 5th Class.

How to apply:

• Application forms can also be availed free of cost at the District Education Officer (DEO) or Block Education Officer or Principals of recognized school having class 5, Sarva shiksha Abhiyan accredited Schools.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), Presently the JNVs are spread in 27 States and 7 Union Territories. These are co-educational residential schools fully financed and administered by Government of India through an autonomous organization, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.

Admissions in JNVs are made through the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) at Class 6. The medium of instruction in JNVs is the mother tongue or regional language up to Class 8 and English thereafter for Maths and Science and Hindi for Social Science. Students of the JNVs appear for 10th and 12th class examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education. While education in the schools is free including boarding, lodging, uniforms and textbooks, a nominal fee of Rs.200/- per month will have to be paid by the children from IX to XII class. SC/ST, Girls and Physically Handicapped and from the families whose income is below poverty line are exempted from payment of fees.

State wise JNVS:

Accordingly to the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme, one Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is to be set up in each District in a phased manner. At present, there are 595 Vidyalayas are sanctioned in 27 States and 7 Union Territories out of which 583 are functioning.
